SETAC Europe 26th Annual Meeting: "Consequences and Solutions of toxins produced by microorganisms: monitoring, management, risk assessment, and future challenges"
The research on natural toxins has many challenges compared to manmande chemicals in understanding their toxicity, availability, accumulation, fate, and other chemical and physical factors as they relate to the biology and ecology of living organisms. Natural toxins embrace highly diverse set of chemical compounds produced by a diversity of organisms.
The BRAAVOO Workshop and Creative Design Course, organized in collaboration with the Envirobot "BioDesign for the Real World" initiative, will provide an opportunity for 5 days of intensive learning and hands-on experience in biosensor theory and practice, culminating with the construction and use of both a bacterial biosensor and a field-portable DIY fluorescence detector, that each student will make.
The course will offer possibilities to design, produce, and test a variety of heavy metal or organic compound biosensors.
The SEA-on-a-CHIP Summer School is offered by the SEA-on-a-CHIP project in collaboration with the ECSafeSeaFood project. The 5 days intensive program (conducted in English) adopts a dynamic, multidiplinary and interactive approach.
The main market for the portable real-time detection and measuring system developed by the EnviGuard project might be the aquaculture industry. This new device could make possible for aquaculture producers the continuous monitoring of the most important environmental parameters affecting the fish and shellfish farming activity. The planned system will be the base of an early-warning system based on real-time data for aquaculture producers. While these systems are undoubtedly useful tools, there is little knowledge about the expectations of farmers towards monitoring of environmental parameters.
