UNESCO has published the first ever global compendium on major harmful algal bloom (HAB), microorganisms that deplete fish stocks, destroy fish farms and bring disease and death both to humans and to large sea animals.
Dr Ian Johnston from the University of Hertfordshire presented EnviGuard project at the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) in Manchester on July 2016. The ESOF is a biennial, pan-European, general science conference dedicated to scientific research and innovation.
SEA-on-a-CHIP aims to develop a miniaturized, autonomous, remote and flexible immuno-sensor platform based on a fully integrated array of micro/nano-electrodes and a microfluidic system in a lab-on-a-chip configuration combined with electrochemical detection (impedimetric measurements) for real time analysis of marine waters in multi-stressor conditions.

The BRAAVOO project organizes a workshop about the latest concepts and advances in sensing and biosensing to provide better tools for future monitoring in the ocean. It will take place in Switzerland during the days 24-25 of November 2016.
The workshop will feature a number of invited talks on key aspects of marine sensing, biosensing and monitoring strategies. In addition, we offer slots for oral presentations selected on the basis of abstract submissions. The workshop will also have a poster session, and there will be room for display of (bio)sensor models and tools.

With the support of CORDIS it has been launched a pilot marine and maritime information sharing platform. The final platform is listing all the exploitable results from marine and maritime H2020 projects, while this pilot only features some 450 exploitable results from the 30 FP7 Ocean of Tomorrow projects.
EnviGuard has passed its half-way mark and the consortium is preparing the next technical & 3rd Consortium meeting on November, 2016.
We are pleased to announce that the BRAAVOO project will organize a specific workshop on Marine Biosensors on November 24/25 in Villars, Switzerland. This was part of our duties anyway, it will be an excellent opportunity to combine more scientific research content on marine biosensing with meetings of the partners in the different Ocean for Tomorrow projects.
The idea is to have a good scientific program by speakers of the various Ocean for Tomorrow projects and experts of the sector.

Björn Suckow participated in the Oceanology International 2016 (OI2016), the world’s largest marine science and ocean technology exhibition and conference at the ExCeL Centre in London (15-17 March 2016). AquaNor in Trondheim is one of the largest bi-annual event of the European aquaculture. However the main focus of the event is the salmon and Nordic aquaculture visitors arrive from all over the word and in this year the number of visitors was a new record exceeding the 20 thousands during the 4 days.
The Aquaculture Europe 2015 event, organised by the European Aquaculture Society in cooperation with Wageningen UR, was held in October in Rotterdam and attracted a total participation of 1,057 people from 65 countries.
