P014 logoIstanbul University is a non-profit governmental university established in 1453 which is the locomotive of Turkey’s higher education with its 20 faculties, 8 graduate schools, 16 institutes, 5 departments and 20 Research and Application centres under the rectorate, and 37 Research and Application centres under the faculties. Istanbul University, which led the way in many areas, has kept abreast with new developments thanks to its changing and evolving structure, and has become model for a number of new universities with its innovative structure. Currently, education continues in eight campuses (Beyazıt, Avcılar, Çapa, Cerrahpaşa, Bakırköy, Bahçeköy, Şişli and Kadıköy). Over 70 000 students are being attended to by approximately 15 000 administrative and academic staff. This university is ranked within the 500 list of global universities. IU has participated in various different EU projects.
 
Faculty of Fisheries has 30 years of experience in the field of aquaculture. The faculty of fisheries carries out research on fundamental sciences, limnology, basic fisheries, fishing biology and population dynamics, fishing, processing, quality control, aquaculture and fish diseases. There are 2 research facilities focusing on aquaculture and one fully equipped naval research vessel in its organization. The Marine Gökçeada Fisheries and Sapanca Fresh Water Fisheries Application and Research Facilities, and Yunus S RV. The faculty of fisheries serves in 3 department and 6 programs where students convert their theoretical knowledge to practice through internships and application works such as EU projects undertaken by the faculty. Faculty is well linked with the private aquaculture sector as a solution partner both in Turkey and Europe.
